Congratulations to those parents of kids who got their top choice college! Reflecting back, what do you wish you had told yourself as an 8th grade parent?
My girlfriend's son has always dreamed of going to Duke and got his acceptance recently! She told me 1) she worried when he didn't get into HGC and 2) when he didn't get into MS magnet and 3) when he didn't get into RM IB. She said she wished she had worried less. It all works out ![]() |
I am not really giving advice to 8th grade parents because I think everybody is in a different situation and has different children. I can't afford a Duke and my kids will not be getting scholarships. They will be going to a MD state school.
What I am doing differently with my younger 2 is that I am not worrying about AP and honors classes. If it makes sense it makes senses but I am not going to force it. They are not going to take MCPS classes senior year except English. They will take Montgomery College classes and transfer the credits instead of trying to take AP classes and the tests. I will not try to put them in advanced Math and Calculus AB CD EFG. ![]() |
I would have told myself not to let me son take any SAT Ii as a freshman. Worried about it later for years, but it didn't hurt in the end |
