I delivered my first with Tepeyac Family Center in Fairfax- FYI - they are a Catholic practice and don't do contraception or abortions. That wasn't a problem for me as I needed neither.
They are the most caring group of Docs I've EVER encountered -very concerned for my well being, always willing to take whatever time necessary to answer my questions, address concerns and just all around good human beings. I ended up on bedrest for 20 weeks and needed a cerclage. They were great at giving me all the options and very good at keeping me informed during the pregnancy and most of all keeping me calm and encouraged. I ended up delivering with a c-section (because of severe uncontrolable nosebleeds). I have to say that they did everything possible to avoid that c-section - called my ENT, other ENTs and made sure that the section was the best option. Basically, they were afraid I'd have another nose bleed if I labored.
I am now pregnant with my second and they have been most encouraging of a VBAC and we're hoping my nose bleed issue was resolved with surgery and I'll be able to have this baby vaginally. They also deliver at Fair Oaks which has a MUCH lower c-section rate than Fairfax and is known to be more supportive of natural childbirth if that is what you are hoping to do. One of the docs on staff at Tepeyac maintains privaledges at Fairfax and at one of her recent meetings it was reported that to date (of the meeting) the only VBACs they'd done this year were the ones that were "on accident". The doc who was telling me this (not the one with privaledges) was very frustrated with this because of the teaching nature of Fairfax...I think this story should give you a better idea of how supportive they are of VBAC and not just saying "yes, we encourage VBACs" because that's what the patient wants to hear.
The office space is a little less than desirable - never dirty, just in a strip mall and a bit out dated. I know that they serve a large number of families who are uninsured and underinsured so I see it as they are investing in helping more people rahter than having plush furniture, etc. So I overlook the outdated art and focus on the wonderful service and care I receive. Also, I was in the office every 2 weeks from 20-30 weeks and weekly after that and I only had to wait a long time once during all those visits. They have an onsite woman who does all the blood draws so you don't have to go to a seperate lab. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for an OB.
