Doing something about neighborhood blight?

Does anyone have any experience having a property declared blighted by the county? I live in Arlington and there are a few properties in my neighborhood that are a public nusance. They appear to be long abandonded and perhaps may have caught fire at one point. I know that Arlington has a blight ordinanace (or at least they did in 2003) but I can't find any recent information on the topic. I contacted the county for more information, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience.
