We are starting with rice cereal and soon we will be introducing some vegetables. But I am not sure how much should I give to him. He is eating about 2 oz and he seems ready for more. But when I offer the breast after the rice he does not seem that interested, so he is not really hungry. How did people start? How much should he be eating? I don't want to overfeed him...

You should offer him the breast before solids. You don't want the amount of BM to decrease. I usually do the solids about 1/2-1 hour after a bottle.
My DS didn't like the rice. After about 2 weeks we switched to oatmeal. |

Rule of thumb: If your child is still hungry after eating enough breast milk or formula, add solids. My 7.5 mo. has between 30 and 32 ounces of formula a day but b/c he has a good appetite, he also has solid food in between bottles - usually 2 containers of stage 3 foods or good portions of pureed foods.
Solids shouldn't interfere with nursing or formula. |
| Thanks, PPs. I only give him solids before going to bed, and he nurses after that (night routine). No matter when you give them solids it will interfere with nursing/formula because they will be less hungry for that, right? |
