Remaining patient during job search

I'm really struggling with this. I am unhappy at my job (been here for almost 10 years) and just recently started looking. I applied for a few jobs at organizations where people I know, either personally or professionally, have contacts and have offered to send my application to their contact, in addition to my official application to HR. But these people have not followed up with me to say whether they have, in fact, gotten around to passing my information along, etc. I don't want to bug them to see if they've done what they said they would, but I really want some follow-up. Anyway, I don't really have a question, but just wanted to vent because I haven't had to look for a job in a long time and I'd forgotten how frustrating and emotionally draining it can be...and I'm just starting! It's so hard to be patient, especially when I don't feel at all committed to my current job and really don't want to be here.

I'm sorry. Hang in there. And be glad you have a job in the meantime. If you think you're obsessing now, imagine what you'd be like if you were home all day!
