d.c. charter preschools

Anonymous
I am trying to figure out whether a charter school is an option for us. I was initially just considering a private preschool/elementary school, as the public school in my area of dc is not acceptable. I have looked at the basic DC website on charter schools, but I have no idea which are the exceptional ones and which are not. There seem to be a number of ones that lose their charter each year. Which are the ones that are sought after? Does anyone have some experience in applying to charter schools?

There are several good ones. As is the case with all schools, you need to visit them to get a feel for how well it meets your needs. Our son attends Capital City Public Charter School which we really like. Another good one is E.L. Haynes. Entry to both of these schools is by lottery and applications are being accepted now. You can probably get applications on their websites (www.ccpcs.org for Cap City).

While I don't have first hand experience with it, our son played on a soccer team with several kids from Latin American Montessori Bilingual (LAMB) Public Charter School and the parents all seemed thrilled with the school. They were a very friendly bunch, so at least socially I would feel very comfortable with LAMB.
