| I can hear the glee in every email we get saying the preschool is closed 'per FCPS"!!!!! Of course, they're thrilled with this and they think we dont realize that the policies of closing FCPS do not apply to preschools. |
| Is this "real" preschool or a daycare center? |
| My daycare follows FCPS in a way - if FCPS is closed, daycare has a short day (9-5 instead of 7:30-6). I guess it could be worse and I shouldn't complain, but I wish they could override the policy for a day like today when arguably FCPS should have been open (at least in the part of town where the daycare is - near FFX/Annandale). It kind of messed me up to have the delayed opening today. |
It's a 3x/week preschool for a 3yr old. So when school is canceled this much because of FCPS, we are paying tuition and not getting anything in return because this school is always closed--eihter for snow, cold, winter break or teacher days. |
If you don't like your preschool's policy, talk to your preschool. Or find a preschool whose policy you like better. |
| I agree with you, OP. My day care follows the Montgomery County Administrative Office decisions. The schools close because of concerns for kids walking to school and waiting for the bus. These issues do not apply to preschoolers/ day care kids. |
| Total glee---of course they have no incentive to change this policy since it benefits them 100%. |
| What? They are still paying for the teachers, the building. Maybe they save $10 on snacks for the day? Look at your preschool budget and you will see. |
The preschool is the teachers in this instance. Everyone is getting paid and no one is working. This is a church affiliated school. |
+1 |
| i don't care if they close but i wish we would get a refund for the days that they are closed. |
| One of the many reasons we picked our preschool was that it didn't follow Fairfax Cty. The year we were at a school that did, my kid was out of school almost as much as he was in, between holidays, teacher workdays, vacation days, and snow days or delays. It was nonsense. Now we're at a school that follows the federal government for snow stuff and has federal holidays off, reasonable vacation breaks (our old school had 3.5 weeks at Christmas and 2 for spring break!). I felt so cheated at the old school--why does a preschool teacher need the same teacher workdays off as Fairfax?! They weren't at school doing anything --it was just a day off. |
| I just get pissed that they "follow FCPS" with regard to closures -- I doubt they will make up the days as FCPS plans to. We shall see. |
Former preschool teacher here, who would write mid year assessments at home on teacher workdays or they would schedule in-service training sessions. Just because it is preschool doesn't mean we don't have work to do outside of school or during teacher workdays... The reason pre-schools and other small private schools like to follow the county is so they don't have to hear about it when they make the wrong call. YOU parents will complain no matter what happens so they might as well pass the buck and save themselves the heartache. |
My preschool doesn't have Spring student assessments. So what's the day for? |
