Silly question but I'm clueless about fashion...

Is it okay to wear open-toe shoes (heels) in the winter? I haven't had time to shop in ages and I have a holiday party this weekend. I'm really clueless about these things. Also, I have a wedding to go to in February and will wear a black cocktail dress (and close-toe shoes). Stockings or no? Thanks!

open toe ok in winter. Some really young fashion types wear with tights, would not do it unless you can really pull it off. . . get a pedicure for sure.

On the hose and the wedding. I don't like black for a wedding ever (is it evening black tie?) I would wear hose but not required. If a church wedding, I strongly prefer hose. There should be some good sales this year-- I would try for a different color dress. While black is acceptable now for black tie weddings and evening weddings, there are many still old fashioned guests (likely) who will still consider it in bad taste.

Have fun!

I agree with the advice re: open toe.

I say no to stockings, but I also HATE to wear them. I don't think the location matters. I also think it's fine to wear black (no black is old school and who cares what the old fashioned guests think...they'll want you to wear hose, too).

Have fun at both events!

OP here, thanks for the info! I so rarely have to dress up anymore and live in jeans. I had no idea black was considered inappropriate for weddings. I've even worn black as a bridesmaid twice!

Wear black opaque tights under the open toe shoes. It will look fashionable and only a little late on the trend but in dc that's ok.

I agree with PP. And it is not late on the trend, that is ALWAYS the look in NYC. Keeps you warm too. Just be sure the tights match the shoes.

Black is fine for weddings. It is long white dresses that are the only real no no. Do a beautiful pin, or fun jewelry or a great faux fur jacket to spruce up.

op again..the open-toe shoes are silver. will black opaque tights still be okay?

Pp here. No-not with silver. Do you have black shoes? If not, don't wear tights with the silver shoes.

I say if you have the legs to pull it off, no hose and a nice pedicure. If the legs are not fabulous, hose may make you look better.

I do not like hosiery. I don't even like the concept of it anymore. I am the poster who argued with her sister about whether she should wear hose or trouser socks with pumps. I'm proud to say that my barefeet look great in my shoes, and I do not feel cold.
