| Deductions that are the least suspicious for an audit alert? |

I wish Mortgage Insurance wasn't an itemized deduction! |
| I am sorry I mean to say interest! |
| The ones that you have documentation for? |
| Try the home office deduction. |
| I could never do the home office deduction. Never worked out. |
| Legal/legitimate ones. |
Hahahahahahaha. I was going to post the same thing, but I decided it was too mean. The home office deduction is one of the most likely ways to get audited. |
Why? I don't get it... |
That's bullshit. if you are a TRUE 1099 that means you probably don't GO to and OFFICE to do your work or that you do a good deal of your contracting work from your home. Tell me how that would be a red flag? it would actually seem strange to me to be a 1099 and ignore the home office deduction. Yes, if you are a straight up W2 - I would never ever claim a home office deduct even if I did do a lot of work from home....that would be a red flag. |
+1...don't get it |
Did OP ever say he/she was a "TRUE 1099?" I must have missed that. |
You don't get it because you mortgage interest it probably higher than your standard deduction...Mine is not...so i wish I could get my standard deduction and still be able to deduct mortgage interest. |
PP probably means she wishes it was an above-the-line deduction. With interest rates so low, it takes a really high mortgage anymore to be able to itemize. Although that's less of an issue in these parts, where we also have state and local income taxes that are deductible. But in places like Florida, you can borrow $200,000 at today's rates and not qualify for the mortgage interest deduction. |
