Virginia wines in Bethesda?

Anonymous
Anyone know where to find Virginia wines - preferably white from Barboursville - in Bethesda? Didn't have time to pick it up at the vineyard and going crazy calling liquor stores in Bethesda trying to find it. Thanks!

I'd call the vineyard and ask them if anyone in Bethesda stocks their wine. They'll know who they ship to.

Alcohol is regulated by MoCo, so your vineyard will know if they sell to MoCo or not, but maybe not which retailers carry it since it's sold from MoCo to the retailer.

I'm pretty sure Rodman's carries some VA wines.

I'd try addy basisns on MacArthur or Calvert Woodley. Not far from Bethesda and tend to have much better selection than the county stores or the limited other wine sellers in Moco. Even the Safeway on MacArthur has a better selection.

Barboursville Viogner is fantastic. I've seen it Calvert-Woodley, OP.

It really is. I LOVE Barboursville Pinot Grigio. Trump Sauvignon Blanc is surprisingly good as well. No advice on where to get in Bethesda as I am in Virginia but just want to chime in that several Virginia whites are really great.

still eeuu, and I've even done the tour of Barboursville. A friend of mine when given the wine list always says "anything but Virginian". Gotta agree.

This is OP - thanks for your replies! Haven't tried the Viognier, it was the Chardonnay reserve I loved -- and I'm not a big white wine drinker. That said, I disliked most of the pairings at our dinner. If you go, do a tasting first for $5 and order the wine you love with dinner. It will save you $50 pp and enhance your meal!!

And then they order Kendall-Jackson. Or Santa Margherita.

OP, why not order a direct shipment from the winery? We can do that now in Maryland (finally!). Not every winery ships to MD, but most VA wineries that have been around awhile do.

There's a lot of good viognier out there: White Hall, Veritas, Horton, Pearmund should all be reasonably easy to find. There's also good Vidal Blanc, Riesling, or Vidal/Riesling blends out there. Linden and Pearmund come to mind.

I've seen a good selection in that little mom-and-pop market in Kensington, the one next to Sub Urban Trading and the garden store. I can never remember the name of it. (Basically they sell coffee, ice cream, wine, and beer, with a few other convenience items.)

Virginia wine is illegal in Maryland.
