| Any feedback on either school? |
| I'd search the archives love. MOUNDS of feedback on LT. |
| We are IB for JO but are now in our 3rd yr at LT and vvv happy there. I have friends who really like JO, too, and people are excited about the new principal there. It has a better playground than LT and an after-school yoga class. That said, we love LT and are staying there for the long haul -- but it's still great to have an option like JO. |

We are a current JO family that was new to the school this year. We ended up there because after 2 weeks we realized the original school we had chosen was not going to be a good fit for our child. I went to JO doubting that I would like it and much to my surprise I LOVE it. They say things happen for a reason so I truly do think us ending up there was by design...not accident. My child is happy and thriving there and we both love the teachers, classrooms, kids and other families. It really is a gem of a school!

Most of it from people who haven't stepped foot into LT. |
| That 70 page thread on LT is about people comparing LT to what they think it should be (Maury/Cluster), not comparing it to Wilson. I would be very interested in the comparison to Wilson, especially for PK 3 to K, given that these two schools are two of the only DCPS we have a chance of getting into for those grades. I have heard a few good things about Wilson's new principal, the French and music programs there, and the playground is fantastic. Not sure how to rank it versus LT for PK 3. |
| That's a fair comment PP. I know a number of families who think LT is great, especially for early childhood. It was not a good fit for my dc, but that is ok. That said, I think one of the problems with both Wilson and LT is that many of the families are short-timers and know that they will be. So I'd go with the one where it seems like the families are not constantly playing the lottery. |
| We love LT -- didn't lottery last year, and won't this year. Like a growing cohort of IB families, we are determined to take advantage of this wonderful school for the long haul. Sure, the principal could be friendlier, but the teachers she hires are first-rate, and the kids are thriving. I know quite a few Peabody teachers who LOATHE their PK4 teacher; this never happens at LT. |
| The principal at LT struck me as a bit rigid. What do folks think of her? How do folks feel about the cheating rumors at JO Wilson and the fallout? |
| Cheating rumors at JO Wilson? I'm a PS parent and hadn't heard about this...guess I'm out of the loop. Please share the details. On another note, I think the school is fantastic, my pre-schooler is performing wonderfully! He's interacting well with the other kids, has become super independent since starting there, his vocabulary has grown beyond belief and he's learning tons through their play-based curriculum. It's the perfect school for our family! |

The cheating rumors are from several years ago -- Wilson was one of the schools with suspiciously high erasure rates (so was LT, for that matter, though not nearly as high).
Here's a 2011 article that discusses Wilson, specifically: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/class-struggle/post/what-happened-at-wilson-elementary-school/2011/08/03/gIQAiJNqtI_blog.html However, the current principal is not the principal who was there at the time of the possible cheating, and I believe the official report was unable to find any hard evidence beyond the suspicious erasures. |
| JO Wilson was a nice school when I attended many moons ago, so I am biased. Is Mr. Martinez still there? |
|
Anyone else have any opinions on JO vs. LT? I'm trying to decide where to rank LT vs. JO.
I'm slanting towards putting JO a littler higher after touring both schools. Both schools have their strengths and weaknesses, but seems like either option would be fine. |
I'm curious, what schools did you attend after JO Wilson and in what professional field do you work in? |
Oh dear..... |
