when do you go from 2 naps to 1 nap?

I have a toddler and am wondering at what age I should go down to one nap. Right now he does a morning and afternoon snooze.
Thanks!

my son gradually wanted to go down for his morning nap later (went from org being 10 am to now at Noon). when that happened he just never wanted to go down for another nap later in the day. This happened when he was about 16 mos old.
Don't worry too much about the transition, it seems most toddlers transition when they are ready on their own. Some don't until later but they all do eventually.

My youngest dropped to one nap this month. She is 14 months old. But, my middle son didn't drop to one until he was almost 2.5 years. There is such a wide variation with this.

It does vary quite a bit. I think a lot of 2nd children go to a noon nap early because of the older child's schedule (Imagine how little you can get done with naps at 10, 12, and 2 PM and at least one child awake at each one).

Mine was forced to one nap early (10 mo) due to construction in the neighborhood that made it impossible to sleep except during the crew's lunch break. He occasionally slips back to 2, but mostly it is one big nap now.

Thank you everyone for your replies. Mine is only 12 months and my mother in law wanted him to go down to one nap at 10 months...he wasn't ready and I thought I was doing something wrong. Your perspectives help. I'll just let him set the schedule (till I have another child or construction )

10 months seems very early to me. My DS was about 1.5 years. It will become obvious to you when he's ready.

leave it up to the child.

Not much you can do to control this. My children also differed from one another. One thing I did with #2 (who took a long time to fully transition to one nap) was to let her sleep for a few minutes (less than 10) in the car on the way to or from taking my son to preschool. Then she was still able to take a longer mid-day nap (instead of the 2 or 3 o'clock nap). It was almost as if the first nap didn't count.

My second child has been taking one or two naps since she was 16 months old and is now 18 1/2 months old. It just depends on how early she got up or went to sleep for the night and our 4 1/2 y.o.'s schedule.

I was going to post this question myself. I think my 11-month old wants to drop his afternoon nap, but I don't think he's ready. He really fusses and resists, but he often gets up at 4:30am so I can't really push his morning nap out too much. He has a meltdown at around 5pm if I can't get him to go down in the afternoon. Sometimes he'll conk out at 5pm ant that really screws up his night sleep. He goes to bed at 7pm. Ugh, we're a mess. If I put him to bed earlier, he gets up before 4:30am. He's wide eyed and bushy tailed - ready to play!!! It's killing me.

Mine transitioned to one nap at 13 months. The adjustment took about one week. I knew she was ready when she refused to fall asleep for her morning nap.

sometime between 12-18months.

The key is to not go anywhere in the stroller or the car the hour before the kids one nap, and while transitioning, move it up a bit, so that if you normally would nap at 1pm, have them nap at 11:30 or 12 if they are fussy.
