Return of the polar vortex: Cold, at times downright frigid for end of January; increasing snow chances through the end of January.
For the love of God please close schools now so we will be prepared!! Do NOT let children stand at unheated bus stops! Do it now Dr. Starr !! |
Step away from the computer. You aren't as funny as you think you are. Really. |
I hear you, OP. |
Actually she is. If you want to see real histrionics regarding the non-closure of schools last week, head on over to the Parents Coalition blog. And they wonder why few take them seriously... |
Huh? MCPS was open. |
I guarantee you that if the morning temperature gets anywhere near zero we will see the usual suspects demanding that schools be closed. |
Whatever MCPS did, the Parents Coalition blog will say it was the wrong thing to do. |
MCPS did the right thing last week. Opened on time when it was chilly (it just wasn't really that cold) and 2 hour delay when it was icy. FCPS overdid it IMO.
People have plenty of time to get appropriate hats and gloves for their kids this time. They should even be on sale. |
It is suposed to get quite cold again enxt week and I am interested to see if Fairfax and Loudon close again. My guess is no. |
Feel better now? |
Big cold wave starts next Tuesday and continues through around Jan 30 or so. We may remember this cold more for its persistence rather than its intensity. Many days of subfreezing temps likely.
Yes, there's a chance of a brief intense shot of frigid air (a polar vortex type event) embedded within this longer cold wave, but those details still need to be ironed out. Those details along w/ details about possible SNOW. |
This can't be a serious post... |
