What do you wish people understood about calling 911 but don't seem to that would make it easier for you, police, or the fire department?

are you ever disturbed by the calls? I feel like some calls would haunt me forever. It is definitely not an easy call.

I gues the OP got busy at work ..........

What's the craziest call you've ever received?

This is the OP, sorry, yes I did get busy at work

I worked in VA for 7 years and now in MD for 2 years.

A lot of the burnout is the schedule, differnet departments do it differently but I have a 12 hour shift and work day work. It really works for my family. Some dispatchers I know work every weekend and have off Weds/Thurs for example. That gets old after a few months or years.

I dont think there is one specific crazy call I have had, Over the years there have been a lot.
One that comes to mind is a male calling saying he was out of town and wanted us to bring his trash cans in for him. ( we didnt) he was quite upset that that wasnt a service we provided.
The ones that upset me are the ones that involve kids. Usually domestics. Kids either call 911 or are in the house while the parents are yelling at each other.

Op again, I would like people to know that most wildlife is not dangerous, an animal outside during the day is most likely not rabid.
Dont get into a road rage incident with another car, let them in front if necessary, Its not worth it, you never know how unstable that person is.

Its not as disturbing over the phone as it is seeing something happen in person. Its not personal to us.
If there is a call I need closure on, I can ask the Officer when they are done what happened. The Officers are good about getting back to us if we need to know.

How much does it pay?

What sort of experience do you need?

What training do you get?

Do you like it?
