Losing weight at end of second trimester?

Anonymous
Hi all,

I put on a lot of weight early in my pregnancy (about 24 pounds by week 24), and over the last few weeks, I have lost about 4 pounds. I don't go back to the doctor for another week, but I wanted to know if this seems worrysome to any of you. I am eating the same as I was eating before, and I definitely feel as though my stomach has gotten much bigger in the last few weeks and that the baby is kicking a lot...

Did anyone else have the non textbook weight gain?

PS-I was normal weight to begin with -- 5'5", 135 pounds.

I'm sure you're just fine, but I would check with your doctor just in case. Are you exercising more than before?

Good luck!

Sounds like me. I gained a lot in the first couple of trimesters then really slowed down until the last 10-15 days when I gained like 10 lbs of water even though I was eating pretty lightly at that point. I think my total weight gain was about 40-45 lbs. Baby was big and healthy and most of the weight came off pretty easily postpartum.

OP here -- thanks for the replies. I'll try not to be too worried!

I think everyone gains weight differently. I put on very little in the beginning, lost a few pounds mid-way through, and then gained almost half of my total weight in the last 4 weeks of the pregnancy. The whole time I was eating well (never had morning sickness to contend with), and exercising; nothing about my routine really changed, but the amount I put on fluctuated. I thought it was a bit weird (especially the late-term weight gain), but I felt healthy. My midwife thought I was doing great - as long as your doctor or midwife doesn't have any concerns, don't let it worry you.

I lost a lot of weight in the first trimester, gained at the beginning of the second - then lost again. Turned out I had gestational diabetes.

My weight went up and down throughout both my pregnancies, and there were no problems.
