Reposting from travel forum: Any suggestions for a good (edible) host gift to bring to MIL's house in FL? Ideally something that will fit easily in a suitcase and is unique to DC. TIA!

| Although they aren't made in DC, I've found a bag of those Salty Oat cookies from Teaism makes a good edible gift. |
|
Not quite DC but Williamsburg Peanut Shop nuts are good. Also chocolates from Range.
Isn't there a store near Dupont Circle that has specializes in local foods? |
| Virginia wine? |
| Go to Union Market and see what locally made non-perishables you can buy. If nothing else, Salt and Sundry is a local shop that carries mostly USA-made goods. So not completely local, but close! |
| Virginia stuff: apple butter, peanuts, wine. There is a store specializing in VA stuff in Old Town Alexandria. Also, anything with cherry blossoms on it. (But that wouldn't be food, obviously... candles, lotion, etc.) Also, MD crab cake-related stuff. |
VA and MD are not DC. |
At last check DC is a little short of farmland and/or food production facilities. |
| white house cookbook. |
Idaho potatoes?
|
So get mumbo sauce and Rock Creek soda. |
