If anyone else has looked into this and has a list, could you share?
Or, is this info available on some charter/DCPS website? TIA. |
| Haynes is. But it's not year-round in the way that I envisioned it--they start a couple of weeks earlier than DCPS and end at the same time, so it's really that they have some longer breaks than DCPS does in the fall and Spring. |
| I would find it very odd if there were truly 12-month public preschools. |
| EL Haynes & KIPP - there may be others |
really? |
| Appletree has a summer program and so does Stokes. |
| summer program is not a year round school. If you count that, then you might as well call DCPS a year round school system. |
Um no. Kipp has a 4 week summer program. |
|
Well, I don't know how long KIPP's summer program is - but their website says "mandatory summer school" starts in July. Is the summer school mandatory for ALL students, or just some? If it's mandatory for everyone, it's effectively a year round school, as most year round schools have breaks of about 6 weeks in the summer.

It's mandatory. We were accepted at KIPP for prek4 and the mandatory summer school was one of the reasons we went elsewhere. If I recall correctly, they also have school for 1/2 days on Saturdays twice a month and that is also mandatory. |
| at the expo the folks at Sela were saying they were going to have a 5 week summer program that I believe was free |
| Kipp was just in the news for having a padded "calm down" room. I don't believe it was a Kipp in this area but what's I've heard is that they are ran like a boot camp. |
| Many schools have a 4 week summer program, Bethune has one and Creative Minds. |
Case by case..at least in my case my child was "allowed" to not attend. Of course this is not something they tell parents. But, I no longer have to deal with this as I pulled my child out of KIPP. |
| So I guess we can say a lot of DC schools are "year round" if we are counting summer programs..DCPS is year round |
