OK, I called Sports and Health Club to ask what their rates are. They connect me to a sleazy used car salesmen type who basically says he can't tell me the prices until I come in for a tour. Apparently, I have to go through a timeshare-type sales pitch and they are supposed to pitch me on some long term deal. This sounds very unappealing and a waste of time if the place is too expensive.
I'm not interested in any long term upfront or prepaid cost (I want to quit if the classes stink or if I have to move). Does anyone know how much it costs to be a member either as an individual or a family? Any responses will be greatly appreciated. |
It varies by location, amenities and the plan you are on. |
I pay $80/month for just myself, and I can only go to the Old Town (Alexandria) location. I believe the family plan was around $120-$140 per month? |
The cheapest couple's plan was $59.99, but that's with a year agreement. I'm not sure if they do month-to-month. |
Most gyms are like that, I guess because they have so many different package rates and specials going on. S&H is between $60-$80 I think. WSC is $50-90 depending on the plan (usually determines how many of their gyms you can go to). Fitness First is around $35.
You can also check their websites to see if they have what you want...sauna, pool, classes, etc.—which will help you determine which one is worth the $. You can print out a free trial pass for many of them. |
We just got our renewal letter for the S&H in Tysons. They quoted us $1264 for a couple membership for the year -paid in advance. At some point in the past we did do a monthly payment. |
