How to be TAG identified

Anonymous
Hi, I have a 1st grader who is currently enrolled in a PG County public school. Can anyone tell me how the TAG works, and when should I complete the lottery?
So far, I have no idea whether he's TAG identified and how the selection process works.

Thanks.

Your first grader should have taken the OLSAT in October or November. You can ask your child's teacher for his OLSAT scores. Schools normally send a checklist home for parents to fill out that have high scores. Teacher normally completes a checklist too and grades are given certain point totals which coupled with teacher recommendation and OLSAT scores indicates whether a child qualifies or not.

I think letters may have just gone out or are going out now. If you haven't gotten a letter it might mean that your child is just on the cusp of qualifying or it might be that the letter is forgotten in your child's backpack. They will test again in third grade and you can also request a retest in 2nd. You can't get a TAG seat unless he qualifies.

My daughter entered PGCPS in 2nd and I requested the 2nd grade retest. So if he didn't qualify now, he can definitely re-test in 2nd.
