what happens if you are accepted and you refuse to go? any consequences for future applications?

Grateful if someone can tell me if there is a policy where you cannot apply again in the future (with a real chance to be accepted) if you had refused a place your DC was offered in the past. Thanks!

No "policy," as far as I know. But you darn well better have a compelling reason why you said no, and you'll have to take a blood oath up front to say yes if accepted. And, oh yes, you need to be very, very rich or very, very powerful -- in other words, someone the school really wants -- before they give you a second chance.

If you're just your typical DCUM, forget about it.

Is this really true of all schools? Also, what about a sibling coming along later? Are you burning his/ her chances as well?

thanks to 15:25! we are not very rich nor powerful; we applied to 2 of the big 3 for pre-K but we also have confidence in our public school (Horace Mann) and now we think we'd better go public....maybe I should withdraw my application even if the chances to get accepted are small, just for the sake of future applications....

you might consider asking the director at your own school. back when we applied, we were advised to submit applications ONLY to schools we would accept. if you've really made the decision to go public, then you might think about withdrawing. but if you're not sure yet...
