With Feb. deadlines looming...how do you make summer break work?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum. I thought about posting in the Camps forum, but my question involves more than camps.

I'll be working 30 hr/wk for the first time this summer; some flexibility, not great pay, but I need (and like) the job. I have three kids, so whatever I do will not be dirt-cheap. I guess we will mix it up with full-day camps if at all affordable, some summer SACC, and maybe a sitter? I'm not sure. I could easily end up basically paying to work, and if that's the reality, I'll accept it. What do those who are on a budget do?

I send my three kids to both sets of grandparents for a few weeks. That can take up 4-5 weeks and then I have two teenagers that I found through their afterschool program, who fill in the rest of the weeks.

It's tough, but I can't afford $200+ weekly camps (which only last approx. 6 hours) for three kids.

Where are you exactly? There are lots of camps of differing quality and price points.

I'm in Fairfax but very close to the Burke and Annandale lines.
