Arrrgg. Last night we had a pipe burst in our finished basement ceiling. The water was likely flowing fill blast for 5 hours. Does insurance usually pay the water bill? I've already started the process and we are waiting to be called back. 1K deductible but not very much was damaged. |
I don't think they'll pay the water bill, but they should pay for the damage to your house. |
A lot of times the water company will adjust the bill. I know Fairfax Water would adjust for those who had a polybutylene pipe from the street leaking. This happened in a rental I had. The week after I moved out, the pipe had burst, after leaking for a month or longer. When I received the water bill of $1200 (since it was at the tail end of the 3 mo billing cycle when I moved) they readily adjusted the bill as long as it was fixed. |
also be careful with making claims on your home owners insurance. unlike car insurance they can drop you if you make too many claims. |
