Pipe Burst.. Will USAA pay my water bill

Anonymous

Arrrgg. Last night we had a pipe burst in our finished basement ceiling. The water was likely flowing fill blast for 5 hours. Does insurance usually pay the water bill? I've already started the process and we are waiting to be called back.

1K deductible but not very much was damaged.

I don't think they'll pay the water bill, but they should pay for the damage to your house.

A lot of times the water company will adjust the bill. I know Fairfax Water would adjust for those who had a polybutylene pipe from the street leaking. This happened in a rental I had. The week after I moved out, the pipe had burst, after leaking for a month or longer. When I received the water bill of $1200 (since it was at the tail end of the 3 mo billing cycle when I moved) they readily adjusted the bill as long as it was fixed.

also be careful with making claims on your home owners insurance. unlike car insurance they can drop you if you make too many claims.

Thanks.

County does credit in instances like this! Awesome!
