Year end tips for cleaning service companies?

Anonymous
We use a cleaning service company Maid Cleaning Service. They usually send the same woman each week and charge our credit card. I am wondering what the typical year end tip is that I would give to this woman or should I have been tipping her all along?

When I had a cleaner service, like Merry Maids, they sent 3 women each time and were done in an hour. I paid $90 a cleaning (long time ago). I tipped $75 -- $25 each. Have no clue if that's good or bad.

I never tip during the year, but I give one week's cleaning as tip at the holidays.

I let them divvy it up however they want, I just double the check that I'm writing.

Our crew has been with us a while and I like them. I'm giving each a card w/ a $100 bill. It might be a bit high compared to others on this board, but I fall on the side of give what I can to those who are doing a job I don't want to do in order to make a better life for themselves.

I have one lady who cleans for me - she is not part of a service and thus is cheaper. I don't tip during the year, but gave her a card with $100 (what she charges me each week to clean). However, if I used a service, I'm not sure that I would tip. IMO, I am not their employer (the service is) and they should be responsible for a year end bonus if it is to be given. JMO.

I'm not going to tip my independent cleaning lady. I pay her extremely well for her work. Why should I give her money on top of that? I honestly don't understand. I have my own business, and I would never expect my clients to give me extra money just because we are approaching Christmas. So many people don't even celebrate Christmas! Maybe if I had ever worked in a company where year end bonuses were common, it would make more sense to me.

People who don't tip (and who can afford to) are so bah-humbuggy.

What on earth do you mean by this? Since when do people expect money thrown at them for not doing anything..... Feeling entitled is obnoxious.

I leave my cleaning ladies a gift -- I have gotten them bottles of wine the past several years. I usuall leave them a note that says thank you for giving me extra time to enjoy wiht my family. Please enjoy this with your family this year. I was home one year when they came and got the wine and they seemed excited and pleased. One of them hugged me and two of them traded red for white -- so that has been successful for me.

I also tipped $25 each when I used a cleaning service. This year I have a private cleaner, and I'll be tipping her the amount she gets for one cleaning session.

Read "A Christmas Carol" if you don't get the cultural reference. My post is all about Scrooge and has nothing to do with the Cratchits.

What if you have been using the cleaning service only for 2 months and plan not to continue after the new year? Not to be a Scrooge, but I'm unemployed and used the service only to get me through the early months of motherhood. I was going to give $20 to the woman who does the work and $20 to the owner of the cleaning service. Does that sound about right?

We have hired a maid company to come and clean once, before we move. Should I tip these people?

I live in Falls Church, VA. My cleaners come every other week and charge $85. Two cleaning ladies come. I tip them $10 each every time they come. For Christmas I tipped them $40 each and I also tipped the owner $40. Now, I'm feeling like that $40 wasn't enough.

To complicate matters, one of my "regular" ladies did not show up but a different girl came who I've never seen before. So I put $40 in an envelope for the "missing" woman and then tipped the new girl $10 (my normal weekly tipping).

That's what I do. I write the check to the woman who owns the cleaning service. She can share as she likes.
