First time I've been in the black (on Mint, in the green) ever.
Of course that includes the kids' savings accounts of $4,301 combined... but still, it's so nice to see green numbers in Mint, I had to kvell. |
congrats! I also hit a nice number recently and realized it was partly due to the kids' 529 accounts, but it still counts
|
| Does it count if it's 3/4 from home equity/mostly paid off mortgage? What's the proper formula? |
| Yay!!!! congrats!! That's great!!! We've been paying down a lot of student loan debt and can't wait to not have a negative net worth!! |
| Is mint.com safe to use? I'm interested but am concerned about a potential security breach. Have there ever been any issues? |
|
Yay! Every step forward is going in the right direction! Keep the momentum!

I add up all of my assets and then subtract my debt. For my house I use the tax assessment value because that's usually 10% less than the market anyway, and I figure with all of the fees I would pay when I sell, that it's about right. |
| OP here. Mint uses the zillow estimate for home value, which is probably a bit too high in my case ($470 versus an assessed $425). My positive net worth is due largely to home appreciation, as we bought at $405 just three years ago. Mortgage is down to $370 and student loans are a smidge below $100. Credit card is basically at zero since we pay in full every month. |

Very good!!!
Congrats!!! It feels good!!! |
Thanks! |

Congrats!
I was so happy when my net worth finally became positive! |
| Congrats on not being in debt! Mint is addictive. |
Tell me about it. I check it every single day. The app is great. |
Yes, it's completely safe - never been a security breach. They use the same technology as online banking systems. |
|
Congrats OP!
I didn't realize that you are supposed to count your mortgage against your net worth. I always just include the amount of equity that we have, with the thought that it is an asset that can be sold. But how do you work it? Mortgage in the negative and equity in the plus column? Do you include your retirement accounts in the plus column? |
