We just closed on a house and were wondering if it is customary to give our agent a gift for closing the deal..we were buyers.
No. We gave ours a warm written recommendation.
3% isn't enough?
Agent here. Best gift is referrals
Does anyone give gifts to the loan officer? They kicked ass for us, and I was wondering if that is normal?
It is customary for the agent to give you a gift. Your gift to the agent is the $$.
Stop making those of us who would never even think of such a thing look bad! |
Are you serious? You're already paying their commission. |
OP here...sorry, didn't mean to ruffle any feathers! Just hadn't bought a place in 10 years and thought things may have changed. THanks for the insight...
I bought a gift for my agent -- tickets for he and his husband to see a play they love that ran about $300. He worked really hard and got us a great place.
No way!
Yes, also don't forget to send the IRS a gift when you submit your taxes.

I adored our agent. She was wonderful, patient and a steady-hand through a rough buying season (this past spring). She earned every penny of her commission but I didn't feel at all compelled to give her a dime more than what she was paid. I will give her as many referrals as I can, though.

Our agents routinely for gifts from Clients (this was in ca). They sold a house for the president of amazon or something and I guess he gifted them with kindles. I couldn't afford kindles for them but they really went above and beyond. I bought them large Jo Malone candles and wrote a nice thank you card (I know). I probably wouldn't have if we hadn't felt so close.
