Hi
I'm looking for a gum/fitness center that is similar to my old gym in North Carolina. Specifically it was more a country club feel. Pool, fitness center, basketball courts, tennis courts, indoor track and lockers you can rent and keep your shower stuff in (not daily lockers). I live in fairfax but willing to travel a little bit. Someone recommended Equinox, but I went on their website and got so annoyed with the ridiculousness....I'm looking for amenities, not blatant snobbery. That website was all pretty flash and silliness, I couldn't even find anything to read about lol. Any ideas? Fairfax I see has a country club, but I shy away from country clubs because we aren't golfers, and I don't want a club that has a required annual spend on food... Thank you so much! |
| Lifetime Fitness? Don't think they have the lockers, but they have nice pool, basketball court, some social stuff, cafe, spa stuff, etc. |
| Consider Lifetime or Regency in Mclean. |
That sounds like college life! Our country club doesn't even have these amenities. I would love to find an indoor track somewhere.
What was the NC club called? I am looking for a place like this outside of the DC area. Any other national chain ideas? |

Actually the NC club was the YMCA. In some states it seems the Y is very different, very amenity-rich and although pricey, totally worth it!! In that YMCA we even had a waterpark that would rival standalone waterparks!
When we lived in NH, the YMCA was pathetic (and cheap) and the facilities were nothing like what we had in NC. Same in Boston. My sister lives in Texas and the Y's in her area are like clubs as well. But when we lived in NH, we discovered The Executive, which was a club with all the amenities I describe. It was great but pretty sure not a chain... |
| Sigh. All those fitness centers look nice. You have a skill at finding great places. Makes me wonder why we settle for crowded, sucky places (like Crunch or the like) in DC for outrageous prices... |
| Lifetime (www.lifetimefitness.com) is what you describe. Pricy though.. |
|
Lifetime in Reston is nice. Lifetime is Fairfax is nothing like it. And even Reston doesn't have tennis, a track or overnight lockers.
Sport & Health is a dump. |

Lifetime in Reston has very high basic prices and the kicker is the fact they never stop selling additional food, services, and training sessions. Even when you pay for a trainer throughout the time you spend with the trainer they are telling you that the club wants them to increase their hourly rate $20-30 for the next month's sessions.
It's pretty easy to get up to $1000 per month. |
Basically the Y could be more when land is cheap. Out of luck here |
