Let's say you cut open a green pepper

And the actual pepper flesh (the part you eat) is perfectly fine, but the seeds have some fuzzy mold on them.

Do you still eat the pepper??

I would rinse the flesh first.

No

No.

Yes. Cut the moldy pieces off, the rest is fine.

No. There are mold spores in the green flesh, which has pores in it. It's not fine.

Anonymous
No, toss.

eating a few mold spores is not going to kill you. In fact, by giving your immune system something to do, it might prevent auto-immune diseases.

Especially if you're cooking it, the pepper is totally fine. Just rinse, chop, and use as normal.

I'd rinse it and use it. Not saying the naysayers are wrong. It's just what I'd do anyway.

I'm sure a restaurant would still serve it to you.

Yes. The rest of the pepper is fine. Just rinse and use.

+1. As long as the rest of the pepper is not soft.

I'd scrape out the mold, rinse & eat. What's the worst that could happen?

I showed this post to DH, who makes our salads. He told me, "Yes, you did eat it."
