So I was labelled highly gifted as a child,

Just sayin'.

I hear you! Some days I'm so glad no one is interested in testing me anymore... ;-p

Too funny OP. My son is currently HG and the boy has the common sense of a saltine cracker. He can ace tests, gets, straight A's and loves school but if I ask him to do anything not related to academics he FAILS. Love the kid to death but sometimes I wonder if he is gifted retarded. I know, mean but true.

ps. also to prove your point labeled only has one L, not two....

Is it possible that our standards of learning in this country are SO LOW that all these HG, talented, bright as a star children are just NORMAL and it is our academic system that is lacking? Food for thought.

If you don't have any friends and can't keep a job then you are extremely smart.

I taught only gifted kids for years and it never ceased to amaze me how they did get some stuff.

When one would hurt the others' feelings, I would ask the perpetrator how he would feel if it had been done to him. Almost all the kids would blink and look at me. They literally could not conceptualize feeling someone else's pain. It was too...inter and intrapersonal for them. They all eventually get it (some more than others) but it was really hard for a lot of HG kids to empathize with others!

Or missed out on Mrs. Simpson's training.

I was labelled highly gifted as a child, and today I was baking 25 cupcakes for my kid's school party and just flipped the whole darn lot of them upside down!

I swear, if they had been testing me for manual dexterity (or orienteering for that matter), I would have been in the "special ed" class!

I blame it on all those hormones from having two kids. They are supposed to lower your intelligence, right?

Didn't they used to say that breastfeeding raises kids' IQs? If so, where exactly do you think they are getting those IQ points FROM? I think each kid cost me 10 points....

I'm a member of Mensa and I was just fired from my part time secretarial job. It was beneath me anyway.

My mom, who is a member of Mensa, was always trying to raise her intelligence further. So she checked out a book from the library on How to Improve Your Memory -- and forgot to return it. She got a good laugh from it, anyway.

Don't flame me, but neither you nor the OP can spell labeled...

Sorry, I just couldn't help it!

IQ also starts to go down at age 40. And fathers over 40 have a greater risk of having children with mental disabilities and lower IQs.
