Parents are always seeking advance about the admissions process. Something just dawned on me so I thought I would share. Years ago when DS went through the process I always asked about the playdate in order to get some insight about his feelings. We applied to Maret, Sidwell, and Beauvoir. When we left Maret he was overly excited and stated he had a great time. His feelings about Beauvoir were similiar with a bit more enthusiam. When we departed Sidwell and discussed the playdate he really did not have much to say.
When you consider the best fit for your DC think about his/her expressions and discussion about the school. I was really impresed with Sidwell DS wasn't. Had he been accepted not sure we would have attended the school based upon his reaction to the playdate. I know someone will ask so I will tell. He was accepted at Maret and Beauvoir we decided Beauvoir was the better fit. Beauvoir provided us the opportunity to reevaluate his needs and adjust his educational program based upon his academic growth as a student and social growth as a child. HTH Best of Luck to each of you!! |
| Thanks for the tips but I think most people on these boards would die to get accepted (oops, I mean for the DC to get accepted) to just one of these schools so they probably won't need to be asking their child's opinion on which one they liked best. |
| I didn't ask my child which school she asked best, but I did try to get a good sense of her level of enthusiasm following each playdate. Unfortunately she didn't get into either of her favorites, but it was valuable input for us. |
OP here just clarify I never asked DS which school he liked best. I observed his enthusiam and listened intentially to how he described his experience during the playdate. Anyway I was merely trying to offer a little advice. Good Luck to all. |
| TYPO Should be "just to clarify" |
| I agree with this advice - and my agreement is based on my observations of our preschooler (who, as a group, might be less predictable). I often think that our dc chose the preschool, not us. If we had not seen dc's response to the environments, we would have selected a different school from the one we did. And, yes, we were fortunate enough to have a choice on dc's behalf. |
