I want to buy one, but the ones I've seen in the baby stores seem ugly and overpriced to me. Anyone have any good tips or suggestions on what to look for, and suggestions on decent quality but affordable ones? The ones I've seen seem at the buy buy baby seem to be in the $700 range without the ottoman but the quality doesn't seem so great for the price. I've also seen many online at target and amazon in the 200-300 range, which look no different to me than the more pricey ones i've seen in the stores -- am I missing something? I'm also reluctant to buy one online without a strong recommendation, in case the quality is just horrible since it would be such a hassle to assemble, take apart, and return.
Is there a good store around here with a good selection and a range of prices? Any other glider-buying advice? I'd love an upholstered one that doesn't take up too much space (our nursery is small), but the ones I've seen are really pricey in the stores but again cheaper online -- which makes me wonder about the quality of the ones online. I'd also be happy with the non-upholstered simpler type if a quality upholstered one is not realistic. Ideally I'd spend in the 400-500 range, but would pay some more if it was worth it. Thanks for any help you can provide. |
We have a tiny nursery and ended up going with the Dutalier from Buy Buy Baby b/c it was AMAZINGLY comfortable. In love with it after fives years. |
I picked out a Dutalier that I liked at Buy Buy Baby, and wrote down the model number. A quick Internet search turned up the same glider at NurtureCenter.com for $150 cheaper than BBB and they had free delivery. Sold!
Good luck! |
I plan to buy a gently used glider from craigslist. I think they are ugly as sin as well so I refuse to buy one new. Just be sure to get one from a smoke and pet-free home. I have heard that the padded ones are much nicer than non-padded because when the baby is first born your lady parts will need a nice soft place to sit. |
We got our Dutalier at Babies 2 Teen in Manassas, they have a pretty good selection. If you order it you can choose your fabric from a pretty wide selection, and they do have big sales a few times a year, but I don't remember when. We got ours on clearance, but I wasn't too picky about the fabric. My son is 4 and still wants to rock with me sometimes; baby #2 is arriving in the spring and he's going to be pissed when we take the chair out of his room. He wants me to buy a glider big enough for the whole family to sit in.
Definitely shop for it before you get too big, because after a certain point nothing will feel comfortable when you try it out. I would also skip the ottoman, and just get a nursing stool. |
I too bought a Dutalier at Buy Buy Baby. I waited until I got a 20 percent off coupon and bought it to bring down the price a little bit. I definitely recommend one that reclines. It was well worth the money we spent. I can't tell you how many nights I fell asleep with my DD asleep in the reclined position. |
We got a Dutalier from BBB too. Ours is broken, but I didn't realize it for a couple of months afterward (I could really sit so I couldn't tell) and by then it was too late. If you get one from there inspect it very carefully upon arrival. Hopefully yours will arrive before you deliver as mine didn't. |
2 cents: It's very nice to have the ottoman. I was given a glider (an older-model Dutalier) and then just bought an ottoman from Target. Craig's List also usually has a bunch posted. |
