I'm planning a trip to Grand Cayman this summer with DC7 and DC11. What hotels would you recommend?any good snorkeling off the beach?
Thanks |
| I absolutely love cayman, will be going back for the third time in March. We stay on the east end. |
| Westin Casuarina. |
| Marriott Resort. Great snorkelling off the beach as they have a man made reef..... |
| Many of the hotels on 7 Mile are great, as are the condos avail for rent. The Ritz is the best, but it is pricey. Westin has the best (i.e., biggest) beach. Also, I think the rooms at the Westin were recently renovated. The Marriott has a good rep. The best snorkeling off the beach is at Smith Cove. You drive there - only a few miles from 7 mile beach though. The 2nd best snorkeling off the beach is at Cemetery Beach. Sometimes it is crap though - really depends on weather. 3rd, go snorkeling at Rum Point. Actually, since you are going in summer, Rum Point and Smith Cove will be best for you since both spots have shade. |
| If you can afford it, the Ritz is amazing and super kid friendly. |
| Have you looked into condos? Check out aqua bay club. Our friends stayed there and loved it. |
| I stayed at turtle nest inn. It was wonderful if you are the type that dislikes overdeveloped areas. |

Going for the second time this month with dc 7.
We also love it there. We are renting a condo this year, on the west end. We rent a car, so we can come and go as we like and explore the entire island. |
| If I remember correctly, the Ritz is not beachfront on 7-mile beach, but across the road. |
You are right. It is a short and nice walk. OP, the back of the Island has some incredible private beach houses. You can just walk into the water and see fish, lobsters... In some of the grassy bays you can see turtles and sting rays. |
| I'm going to make a recommendation that you will thank me for if you follow it - if you can swing it, try to split your trip to include one of the Sister Islands, Little Cayman or Cayman Brac. You can take an island hopper plane over, stay a few nights, stay at a small hotel, B&B or rental, and the snorkeling is truly incredible. We stayed at the Divi Tiara on the Brac for a week doing an all-inclusive scuba package (it was a great deal that included the room, 2 meals and 5 days of diving but that place is now closed.) Cayman Brac is great but the scuba off the Bloody Wall off north Little Cayman we did as a daytrip on the boat was the highlight. Little Cayman only has about 400 people on it because unlike the Brac it it low lying and doesn't have a rocky bluff with caves to provide protection for the population during hurricanes. Both islands have incredible stars at night, are totally safe to roam, but of course have no night life and much more limited (but acceptable) options for dining or shopping. I'd look at the Little Cayman Beach Resort or a rental at the Paradise Villas, but there are other options like the Southern Cross Club, I'm not sure Pirates Point takes kids. OMG wish I were there now. |
The oceanfront rooms are on the side with the beach. The non-oceanfront rooms are across the road, but you walk inside a corridor/art gallery. It's a haul, but certainly doable to save $ (well, relatively...). |
