Itchy nipple with some discharge?

Anonymous
For about a month, my left nipple has been incredibly itchy. Not constantly, it comes and goes. Then tonight I noticed clear discharge coming from it; I've never noticed discharge from either breast.

Anybody else have these symptoms for some benign reason? Eczema, maybe? I'm feeling paranoid about breast cancer. I'll call my doc on Monday but was wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

I'm 42 and my mammograms have always shown benign calcifications, nothing else.

You need to see you GYN ASAP. This forum is not the place to get opinions in this case. Good Luck, OP.

As I stated, I am calling my doctor tomorrow. I was simply wondering if others have experienced similar symptoms and why.

OP, I had the sporadic itchy part but not the discharge. I traced it to a new type of laundry detergent that I was washing my bras with. Good luck with this.

There is a benign tumor that can cause nipple discharge. They will most likely biopsy and remove it. Take a deep breathe and relax this weekend and call your doctor tomorrow.

You can definitely get itchy, weepy eczema in the nipple area. Nipple discharge might be different, though.

You need to see your doctor immediately. Although I'm sure it's something else, this can be a symptom of Breast Cancer. It could also be numerous other things I'm sure but definitely call (which it sounds like you're doing)

OP here-- thanks, all. Fingers crossed it's something innocent. I'll post an update after my appt.

OP - please update. It is NOT NORMAL to have discharge from your nipple. Unless... have you recently been or quit breastfeeding? Were you recently pregnant?

OP, I had similar symptoms a few years ago, except the discharge was brown instead of clear. Turned out to be an intraductal papilloma, which is a benign growth. They did a biopsy, which basically removed the whole thing as a side-benefit (that is, it was small enough that the biopsy destroyed it). I needed no follow-up procedures and I've had no further issues.

Good luck!

OP what did the doc say?

I called on Monday and they told me I could come in next Monday the 6th. The nurse I spoke with didn't seem to think it was an urgent situation, though she said the fact that it is happening in one breast only is somewhat odd. I'll post after I have my appt. Thanks all for your feedback, I appreciate it!
