We're having a very casual cocktail party on New Year's Eve. We just recently joined Costco, and I've heard they have good hors d'oeurves. Are there particularly good choices or things we should stay away from?
We like the smoked salmon and the spanikopita
A huge tray of about 60-80 pigs in a blanket and they are goggled up every single time. Lots of people like the Nancy (?) mini quiches. If you want to make a small type pasta, Costco's pesto is very good. Also a greek yogurt based guac (in the refrigerated open cases) is the best pre made guac I'd ever eat.
We really like their fresh salsa in the refrigerated section. I refuse to buy jarred salsa now.
Buy a big hunk of brie cheese and pour chutney over top, always delicious.
This is the OP--thank you for these ideas. For the chutney--do you buy the chutney at Costco? Are there different kinds?
|
I haven't bought chutney at Costco just because I like the mango chutney at Trader Joes. There are lots of variations on this as well (you can use any kind of jam, sprinkle on some candied or regular nuts, brown sugar, etc. The chutney is a little zippier, in my opinion) I like the Costco brie because it's so inexpensive for the amount you get. Some people wrap this in a puff pastry and bake it so it's all gooey and delicious.
Enjoy your party! And enjoy your Costco membership (our other favorite is the large jars of pesto in the fridge section, SO delicious) |
Deli seafood dept has wonderful cilantro-lime marinated shrimp
My 11 yo son loves the refrigerated shrimp platters. He likes to get them even if we arent having a party.
You should have gone today- you could have tried everything I think my son ate trail mix, popcorn chicken, taquitos, mozzarella sticks, salami, chips, spanakopita....
I've always liked the frozen mini quiches- not sure which brand Costco carries, but I like the ones I've gotten at other grocery stores. |
I love the roll ups...used to be called high rollers? Soft tortilla, cream cheese, lettuce, turkey...yum!
OP here--this was really helpful; thank you!
I like the seven layer Mexican dip. The hummus is good too. Nothing earth-shattering, but just good and versatile (can be eaten with pita chips, spread on finger sandwiches, etc)
Spinach dip and one of their bread boules. Hollow out the boule, keep the bread for dipping into the spinach dip. One of the best around!
Warmed artichoke dip--mmmm.
