My DD does not like chopped liver but I've never tried whole pieces, not sure how to prepare it. She needs iron and the fat would be a bonus.
Any tasty ways to prepare it? |
| Nasty!! So many other ways to get fat and iron into her diet (green smoothies for example) do not force your child to eat liver. |

Chop a bunch of onions into large strips/rings. In a big skillet over medium heat, swirl a little oil till shiny, then add the onions, liver, and 2-3 strips of bacon. Fry for 15-20 minutes, stirring every 3-4 minutes. Add salt and pepper. Serve with mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach. Let her add ketchup if she wants to (or A-1 or Pick-a-Peppa sauce if she likes that).
If she doesn't like it she doesn't like it. It's a bit of a grownup taste. I didn't start liking it till about 12. |
| Also, if you don't do it already, cook in a cast iron pan. |
| It's done when the onions are soft and brown and the liver has a brown crust on the outside and is just a little pink, not red, on the inside. If that makes you nervous you can cook till the pink is gone but it will be a little tougher and potentially rubbery. It gets rubbery if you overcook it. |
| My son loves liverwurst (and so do I) - that might be another way to serve it... |
