Hi I'm originally from NYC and I used to do an annual Carribean trip. I usually could get dirt cheap airfares from Jetblue or other carriers with direct flights. I am trying to book a trip to Nassau because of the resorts there have slashed their prices and noticed that there isn't a direct round trip flight from the DC area.
I've also noticed that other areas I've been to don't have direct flights (Grand Cayman, Curacao, St. Lucia) or have very limited and expensive direct flights (i.e Aruba) from DC. Since I am traveling with a toddler, I don't want to mess with a chance of losing my baggage or missing a connecting flight at a hub airport. Any island locations with cheap, direct flights from DC? And hopefully the Dominican Republic isn't the only answer. |
Greetings from St. Lucia. To get here, there are no direct flights from DC. You must connect in JFK, MIA, SJU, ATL, PHL. I think you can fly directly to Jamaica from the DC area as well as Puerto Rico. Good luck!
The list changes, but unsurprisingly there will not be as many options as from NY. Usually you can reach Cancun, St. Maarten, Jamaica, the DR, Puerto Rico. Sometimes the cheaper flights are done by charter companies, or are weekend only schedules.
Offhand, I know that you can fly from BWI to Jamaica on Air Jamiaca. There are direct flights from Dullas to Puerto Rico, and from National to Bermuda (likely a few other spots) on U.S. Air.
Air Jamaica used to go from BWI to St. Lucia, not sure if it still does but may be worth looking into.
