I went UMUC, then graduated summa from a top grad school. Nothing wrong with UMUC, or Montgomery College, where I started, for that matter.

I think this is going to fill a huge void in the MD college system. It's truly a brilliant plan.

+1. It's a good idea. There is huge demand for something like this.

UMUC fills a huge need. We discuss on DCUM how a college degree is becoming the new HS diploma. So why not put it in the financial reach of the masses?

I think CC and UMUC is great for the student that is looking a degree that they can put to use today. It won't work for the student that is interested in the hard sciences where they need the lab instruction. But this model brings education out of the ivory tower and down to the people who need it.

Nothing wrong with the school but it is mostly online and only a two year program. Sounds better than it really is. Classes vary by professor. My husband hated them and stopped. It was painful.

Yes, it's the 2 years AFTER you finish the first 2 years at community college. The 20K program is designed to assist those that have already received an AA degree. And classes always vary by professor--it doesn't matter what school.
