Less serious races? color runs, zombie runs, etc

Anonymous
Has anyone ever done one of these? Are they fun and worth it, or mostly kind of a chaotic craziness?

I haven't, but a bunch of my friends do them regularly and say they are really fun. They're not generally for scoring an awesome PR (personal record), but if you want to get silly and raise a little money for a good cause while hanging with like-minded people, go for it.

it can get expensive to do a bunch of them, though, so you might pick and choose carefully. (I do longer, standard races, and the $60 fees add up, so I only do 2-3 a year.)

There's one of those this weekend - an ugly sweater run. Anyone know anything? Are those fun?

Are there any where you don't have to run so much? I'm all for crawling through mud or climbing over walls though.

I've done two zombie runs. They were both much harder than a regular 5k. One had obstacles; one didn't. You're basically doing a 5k while other people play defense. It's fun, but it's HARD.

I've also done a color run. I didn't like it. The color was huge clouds of colored corn starch. It's hard to breathe with that stuff around.

The most fun races I've done have been mini-tris or sprint-tris. The tri community is awesome and it was just a big party.

I like races that have a fun aspect, but not too fun. So no to color or Zombie. But yes to some of the Pacers 5Ks - there are still some serious runners, but a lot of fun at the back of the pack.

I really like Love the Run You're With (google it) - February at Pentagon Row. The Arthritis Foundation also does a 5K jingle bell run at pentagon row in December, which is nice because the pacer's jingle bell is 8K.

I'm the non-running poster. Sounds like I should BE a zombie.

I've spent a lot of time overseas and I love the hash house harriers. They have local chapters too. Tons of fun....

I have done the DC red dress run. It's crazy, more drinking than running.
