| Has anyone used vacation time mainly or solely to catch up with work? How much time did you use? |
| Um...work work? Or house work? |
| Work work. |
| Yes. I took three days of vacation when prosecuting my first homicide trial so I could do a long, deep dive into the police reports, lab analysis, etc. To make it a little more fun, I rented a nice room at the Ritz-Carlton so my surroundings were at least pleasant and I could order room service, etc, as a splurge. It was one of the smartest career moves I ever made. I was able to really develop a 'big picture' view of the case, in addition to mastering many of the critical individual details. It also had an unexpected bonus in that it left a huge impression on my boss and co-workers, solidifying their perception of me as a hard worker and dedicated prosecutor. If you can spare the time, OP, and the cause is worth it, I highly recommend this approach. |
| No. But mostly because I can't access my work stuff outside of the hospital. |
| Depends on your job. For the previous poster, it makes sense. If you are something like a receptionist, eh, pointless. |
| Whaaaaa? |
|
No.
That is crazy. Do not take vacation time just to work. This sort of reminds me when I was at an intense private school and I called in sick one day in order to stay home and work on several papers that were due. Later that night, a friend of mine who went to public school called me, and I said, "I cut school today." She was surprised, and said, "what did you do?" When I told her I stayed home to work on papers, she teased me mercilessly and set me straight, saying "cutting school means you get together with a group of friends and go to movie or down to see the cherry blossoms or go to someone's basement and get drunk. If you stay home to write a paper, you're not cutting school." |
| Vacation time for work? You people are nuts. |
|
I think it depends a lot on how much you like your work. Preparing for a murder trial sounds really interesting and I could see how that could be kind of a weird mix of work and fun. But if you're just frantically trying to close out the 4th quarter financial reports...no. That's an actual waste of some very precious time. It might make more sense at that point to find someone who works with busy professionals and helps them learn to manage anxiety about work.

| "Vacation" where I work means working from wherever you like. |
Sounds like "weekend", "evening" and anytime outside of the office at my friend's job. |
| I don't even understand the question. |
