| Is there such a class? I own the makeup, but the one time in-store application lesson goes in one ear and out the other, not to mention every salesperson has a different opinion. I'm tired of figuring out if the application is flattering, I need a SME. Preferably the Beth/CC area. |

I've been thinking about getting makeup applied at Red Door to get some new ideas.
Have you tried any books? Making Faces by Kevin Aucoin is my favorite. YouTube videos are helpful. |
| Making Faces is a great book and really fun to look through. |
| Keep the suggestions coming. |
| Go to sephora. They were really helpful with me. Take notes if you need to. |

The Makeup Addiction subreddit has a sidebar with a few guides and tutorials for beginners. It's also a good place to post pics to get your look critiqued, if you're comfortable posting selfies.
Makeup Addicts is a smaller subreddit, so there's less of a chance of your post getting lost. They have a very useful wiki with links to tutorials, youtube channels to check out, and even a guide to navigating reddit itself. Makeup Alley is another good site with a lot of product reviews, as well as boards full of nice helpful friendly folks. Stay out of the cafe board if you want advice. They're almost as bad as we can be over here.

| I thought MAC were good for lessons? I've been meaning to go for one ... |
| OP, what is an SME? |
I've had lessons at MAC, and I didn't care for the complicated, overly done up look that they taught me. I had a much better experience at the Chanel counter. |
| not op but subject matter expert. op is probably a fed. |
| YOUTUBE!!! It's the best!!! |
| OP - I need someone to go over it again and again ( cause I'm slow) and I own plenty of makeup so I don't need to buy. There should be an adult education class, but I cannot find one. |

This makes me wish I was still working at a makeup counter! I worked for Clinique and I did this exact sort of thing for tons of teenagers who were just starting to wear makeup. I loved explaining the how and why of applying makeup but I hated having to sell things.
I follow the subreddits listed above and I belong to Makeup Alley. I subscribe to Michelle Phan's and Kandee Johnson's youtube channels. The PPs are right, there are thousands of youtube channels devoted to cosmetics. You could just search for "natural makeup tutorial" and see what comes up. There are also lots of videos on acne/blemish coverage. |
Then your best bet imo is finding an online tutorial or youtube videos and practicing until you get it. I recommend Lisa Eldridge:http://www.lisaeldridge.com And Wayne Goss as good starting points: http://gossmakeupartist.blogspot.com |
| Any make up artist who does on-site wedding make up will give you an in home lesson. |
