Price of triple pane windows

Anonymous
I know it would depend on the size of the window, but can anyone ballpark for me how much extra triple pane windows cost? Do they come in all sizes? Are they available on glass doors?

Thanks.

Why cheap out with triple? I have sextuple. They are four inches thick.

You don't need triple pane. We do not have the type of climate where those are beneficial.

I framed in all the windows openings, installed 70" LCDs in their place and used video cameras to display the view on the TV.

It's for noise reduction, not climate.

NP with the same question - we are looking to replace all of our windows next year, and were very close to one of the most congested intersections in MoCo. I was thinking about getting triple pane windows on the side of the house that faces that intersection. Does anyone have them?

Get nicer double pane windows. It will help with noise and everything else. Triple do not make a difference.

We were quoted a custom triple pane 3 panel sliding door a few months ago, a bit more than 15K.

I think it was Western Window systems.

Does anyone have actual experience with using triple pane windows (or any particular brand of windows) that reduce noise? I am reluctant to shell out big money for new windows without reassurance that it will actually reduce noise.

I am late to this discussion, but don't change your windows from double to triple just for sound performance improvement, because chances are that you aren't going to see much of any.

Triple pane windows are not inherently better than dual pane when it comes to sound attenuation unless the width of the two air spaces of the triple exceeds the width of the airspace of the double.

You will likely get better results by adding a storm window.

Follow up...

Find a company in the yellow pages (or online) called "Windows on Washington" and ask to talk with Eric, the owner.

Tell him Oberon suggested that you contact him, and he will give you the straight information that you need to make an informed decision.

He is 100% professional, above-board, and a thoroughly great guy.

Good luck on your project!

When we got new Marvin windows the noise was somewhat better but only because our wooden windows were rotting and terrible.

I knew the previous owner had replaced all the windows with new ones but I didn't realize how well our windows worked until my MIL had them open on a busy traffic day and it was SO loud. I had literally never noticed traffic. That day I realized I'd never just have my front windows open because of the traffic noise; I did a little research and I found out they were triple pane, so I'd say it's a good value. We wouldn't have bought the house if we'd heard that noise but we never hear it with the windows the way we are. And I wouldn't have wanted to pay for it.

get good double pane windows and sound reduction drapes.

We have triple pane windows due to noise. We used Ameritech. I think with all the discounts it averaged to about $1000 per window. This was about 3 years ago. We found a noticeable difference in the noise reduction.
