I had a job interview last week- have not heard back yet, not a good sign?

So I had a job interview last week (Tuesday) - it was my second interview for this particular job. I emailed a thank you letter and to date have not received a reply to my email or a response one way or the other about the job. This is not a good sign. . do I have any chance?

No way of knowing. Not a good sign, but it depends on the type of job. If it's a university, they take forever, so it isn't necessarily a bad sign. Did they give you a timetable? You should send them a polite email, and if you still get no response, follow up with a polite phone call asking for a status report.

It's possible they are offering the job to another candidate, and you are their second choice. But no way of knowing for certain until you hear from them.

I've gotten through three rounds of interviews, only to be left hanging for weeks, and find out the job has gone to someone else. It's so frustrating, but in this economy, job seekers are treated like supplicants and given no respect whatsoever. If they don't want you, you may as well be a piece of trash blowing around the street. Sorry, but that's the way it is these days. Good Luck to you.

OP here - thanks PP! The job is at a university! I was told that I should have heard a response by the end of last week or the beginning of this week. I am nervous because there was no response to my email. I really think that if they wanted me they would have at least replied to my email saying they would be in contact. I thought that I had a really good interview but now I am second guessing myself! Thanks.

It is still "the beginning of this week." There is nothing to infer, positive or negative, from the fact that you haven't heard. They just haven't decided yet, or they've decided and haven't had time to call/mail a letter.

Thanks PP! How long would you give it for them to get back to me? Should I call them by the end of the week if I have not received a reply by then?
