Club Med Punta Cana or Beaches Turks and Caicos?

Or something else?

With an almost 4y old, January.

We did Beaches Turks and Caicos in December 2010. Loved it.

We dropped the kids off at the kids club one day when it was rainy and two nights for dinners. Otherwise we all played together in the pools or on the beach. A 4 year old would be a good age for it. They have evening programs that you can go to as a family, like Sesame Street shows, which were actually great because the kid can watch while you and your spouse eat dinner at a normal pace and talk.

Whatever you do, don't stay at The Sands in Turks & Caicos. It's a timeshare, and the positive reviews are inflated by flooding owners.

We went to Club Med Punta Cana this past summer with a 4-year-old and loved it! He didn't want to go to the kids club because just about every kid there was French and didn't speak English (he tried once), but it wasn't a problem for us because we were with friends who also had a kid the same age and they made other friends on the beach. The beach is gorgeous, the staff is super friendly, and the food is delicious! And there are lots of activities you can do with your kid, even if he/she doesn't end up going to the kids club (and the kids who did go to the kids club seemed to be having a great time whenever we saw them).

I would take Turks and Caicos any day over any place in Mexico.

Um, Punta Cana is not in Mexico.

We've gone to Punta Cana many times. We love the resort. But what I love most are the direct flights. They're harder to find then they used to be but it's nice. I've looked at Beaches but it seems that it would take almost a day to get there.

I'd do Beaches Turks and Caicos because 1) DH and I love to snorkel and sometimes scuba and those islands are famous for quality diving 2) I have always wanted to go to Grand Turk so I'd be able to split my trip and go over to one of the small resorts there for a few days but still get some kid club mommy-me time during the trip.
The best places always seem to require more plane connections though.

Just back from Punta Cana (not Club Med, but know someone who's gone three times) and loved it. I also want to go to Turks and Caicos ... Direct flights to Punta Cana from BWI.

You should try contacting a travel agent for more info if you want pricing, details, etc (or do some googling). Try Capital Travel and Events (based in DC) and has good reviews on Yelp.
