| My kids have requested a turducken for Christmas. I'd really like to pick one up locally--does anyone know of anyone around here who prepares them? I also see I can mail order one from Dean and Deluca or the cajun grocer. Anyone have experience with either of these? In particular, is the cajun grocer turducken spicy? Many thanks! |
| Harris teeter had them but you might want to call. |
| They have them in the freezer section at Harris Teeter -- my kids thought it was the weirdest thing they have seen in a grocery store! |
| OP here--has anyone tried the Harris Teeter one? I've seen such mixed reviews on-line that I'm worried about buying one that's a disaster. |
| Friend of mine buys it at Harris Teeter every year for their Friendsgiving. She said it's pretty good. |
| We had the Cajun grocer one a few years ago. Delicious and not spicy. |
| I just bought a (frozen) duck at Costco but I've never heard of a turducken...sounds interesting. I hope you find one and if you do let us know where you find it. |
| Disgusting. Dead chicken stuffed inside dead duck stuffed inside dead turkey. Might as well be a damn vulture. Yuck. |
| Uh, we don't attack you for your vegan preferences. How about piping down and taking it elsewhere. |
| I had no idea you could buy one pre-prepared. I thought this was a DIY kind of project. |
Have you made one of any brand before? I suspect the mixed reviews are mostly because it's essentially impossible to make a good turducken. The meats have different correct internal temperatures so you have to dry out come to make the others edible. Not necessarily Harris-Teeter's fault that it is a "good in theory only" dish. |

I would order from the Cajun grocer and get the one stuffed with seafood jambalaya.
The vegan can add shrimp to that list. |
Damn
|
I take it you haven't tried it? I think you might be pleasantly surprised. |
| Not the "disgusted" poster, but I've tried it multiple times and never had a good one. I think the only way to make a good one would be to cook the three birds separately and then jam them together somehow. |
