Daycare options for infants?

My husband and I are expecting our first child. We are looking for daycare options in Northwest DC (anywhere south of Woodley Park). This could be a commercial daycare or a daycare in someone's home. We would be looking for a daycare that accepts infants six months or older. We are new to this so any suggestions would be very welcome!

check craigslist under "child care." most providers list their location in the subject line. you might also be able to find a nanny share that way. also, consider posting an ad seeking a provider.

also google "infant day care DC" or "infant child care DC", etc. and look at any websites that come up.

Daycare for infants is hard to find so start ASAP! Good luck.

if you or your DH is a federal employee, go to GSA's website and get a list of the federal daycares in the area and get on their lists. if you're not federal, it might not be worth the application fees since agency employees get first priority there, then other federal, then the public.

i've heard first baptist on 16th street is great. other than that i just concentrated on the fed stuff.

good luck and congrats on your pregnancy!! enjoy it!!

The DC Gov website has a list of all licensed daycares under the "school search" option. Some of the info is outdated, and it doesn't give reviews, but it's a good way to know what's in your area

The National Association for the Education of Young Children is an organization that does accreditation for commercial centers. If you go to their website (naeyc.org) you can do a search for accredited centers by zip code. Good luck!
