Puffer vest -- yea or nay?

Anonymous
My husband wants to buy me a puffer down vest to wear to the playground and other places. This one is fairly sleek-looking and seems like it would be useful. Do you recommend them? If I get one this year will it be completely passe by next year? Thanks for any advice you can offer.

If you are over a size 8, I would say no. I am a little puffy myself, and then I put on a puffer (which I loved) and I looked like I was going to float away. Not pretty.

Thanks so much for the candid response. I'm a size 4, and about 5' 5". Though I often feel puffy myself. . . . But you loved the vest aside from the floating away part? Thanks again.

Oh totally. Go to shopittome.com. You get major brands on the cheap.

And you are small enough!!

Thanks, OP. I may be small enough to wear a puffer, but I don't want to look like a buoy floating in the sea, either. And thanks for the great link. I didn't know of it before.

Anyone else have an opinion on puffer vests?

I'm not a fan - I grew up in New England and everyone wore them in elementary school (it was the 80's) so they just look really dated to me, trendiness aside. On the other hand, I regularly wear a black fleece vest I got at REI a couple years ago. Not sure it's any more "fashionable" but I like that it's sleeker and I have an hour glass figure when I wear it versus the Michelin man.

I just saw a puffy vest at Ann Taylor yesterday, and it was very cute.

I like them. My cute college-aged babysitters wear them.

I like them, you are small enough. Just wear something slim underneath some cute jeans and you are good to go!
