I have to tell SOMEBODY! I had it done between my eyebrows and across my forehead. I can't wait to see how it takes effect over the next few days!... I've been wanting to do something about those mad mom lines for about a year now, and my hair stylist recommended her doctor, so I made an appt and went today. I'll tell her the next time I see her, but until then....I'm so giddy!!
Whew, I had to get that out!! |
Do tell!!! Get on here when you see the results! |
Welcome to the club, sister! Getting rid of those mom frown lines was the best thng I ever did! |
Yes, I'm curious to hear about your results! And also if you have any side effects, etc. Keep us posted! |
It's been a little over 24 hours, and I already see that my muscles that make the lines between my eyebrows are probably about 75% relaxed and my upper brow is about 85% relaxed.
I can still make angry mom eyebrows if I REALLY squeeze hard and TRY to push them together to make a face. I can definitely lift and use my eyebrows when telling a story, so if that was a telltale clue that someone's had Botox, consider that myth debunked. My upper brow is completely chilled out. It's very hard to wrinkle up my brow above my eyebrows. I can still lift my eyebrows but not the muscles that were in charge of that long wrinkle. I make ask for a smidge more Botox in the space between my eyebrows if they don't fully relax in the next couple of days. Of course, for another $125, I may just wait until next time. Do they say it takes less Botox each time to achieve the same result? I'd heard that, and hope it's true... |
How much and where???? |
I had been considering Botox but then got very nervous when I read that recent studies show that the botulism toxin can in fact penetrate into the brain. Has this made anyone else re-evaluate their decision about it? For those of you going ahead anyway, what convinced you? Many thanks--I would love to get rid of some wrinkles but would like some reassurance about the possible long-term harm.

PP--sorry, I meant to include this link:

Hi OP,
Can they do the little crow's feet around your eyes too??? I am thinking of doing it after the holidays wind down. Thanks! |
Not the OP, but yes. I had it done by somebody who tries to keep everything looking pretty natural. There is a HUGE improvement, but it is still not totally flat right under my eyes when I smile. I prefer what I have to the totally frozen look, so you may want to talk to your doc about what kind of look you are going for. |
My doctor is in Gainesville, not sure if that's close to anyone or not. His prices are very good, IMO. It's $130 for 10 units of Botox. For reference, the space between the eyebrows took 20 units, or $260. I have a short forehead, so my brow wrinkle only took another 10 units, or $130. But he offers a repeat customer discount of 10% off your first procedure, 15% off your second, 20% off your third, up to 25% off your fourth and beyond visits. My total was right at $350.
I could have had my crow's feet done, but I decided not to. He was saying the eye area is usually Botox treatment, while the area around the mouth is Restylene. If you have really deep lines around your mouth, I think you'd go with Perlane or Juviderm. One is thicker / bigger molecules. Restylene is the smallest molecular structure for the shallowest wrinkles. I have to give him credit for being so honest. He basically told me my wrinkle around my mouth would not go away completely, even with Juviderm (which he wouldn't even use on me - - overkill). If you want to know how it would look after a treatment, take a pencil and lay it parallel to your wrinkle about 4-5 mm away and press. Kind of like pushing on one end of a balloon to boost the other end? You'll see the wrinkle puff out slightly, and that's close to the effect of the Restylene. For me, it wasn't worth the $500 for Restylene on such a small wrinkle by my chin and for such an unnoticeable result. The Botox on the other hand, I am REALLY loving! Today is 48+ hours and I laugh at my face in the mirror trying to hard to frown! It's like I beat myself at my own game!! I can still frown, but it's so mild now, it's comical. One other plus, because I can't scowl or frown, I *feel* happier and look more pleasant. I am happier! |
Is it a funny feeling, not being able to move the muscles in your face? I like the idea of Botox but am scared to experience this. I'm kind of a control freak about my body. The spinal during my c-section really freaked me out and I don't even like novacaine. |
OP again. It's hard to say what it feels like. You know when you do the total mind/body relaxation technique? The one where you first relax your toes, then your feet, then your ankles, all the way up to your head?
It's kind of like that, and you've laid there in the dark silence of meditation for a few minutes concentrating on relaxing the muscles on your forehead to the point they feel completely relaxed.... it's a very nice feeling. Not creepy like novacaine at the dentist or anything remotely like that. Very relaxed, very smooth... |
Just an update from my first foray into the land of Botox: I'm about a week into my first round, and I'm definitely coming back for more when this wears off.
The lines between my eyebrows that were always there (my "mommy's mad" lines?) are totally GONE. Smooth. Gone. The line across my forehead? Also gone. If I really insist on frowning, it can be done but it's comical to watch my reflection trying so hard to frown! I can raise my eyebrows with shock, furrow them with anger - - I doubt anyone would know I've had Botox. My face looks 5 years younger. I also invested in some glycolic acid facial wash (well, if you call $10 at Marshall's an "investment") that I use 2x / week, and some heavy duty concealer the lady at Sephora sold me on for my dark circles under my eyes. I feel like it's well worth the money to roll back 5+ years off my face, which in turn rolls back another 5+ years off my mental age and state of mind. I was one of those who thought I could never afford Botox nor would I want to pay $300 every 4 months, but honestly I think I would choose Botox over blonde highlights. And I've been paying $100/mo for highlights since college, so that's huge!!! |
