toy workbench recommendation?

Anonymous
Anyone have a toy workbench that their kid loves? We have some tools but my son's gotten bored with them because they don't do anything - hoping to find something where the drill turns things, etc., and toddler/preschoolers can actually make projects - preferably wood or something that's at least good quality. Any suggestions?

We lived abroad for a year, and the 3- and 4-year-olds in nursery school did real wood-working--yes, with hammers and nails and lots of adult help. My child loved it!

We also went to a woodworking party here for a fifth birthday. They made birdhouses--something like this:

Not sure if your child is old enough for this sort of thing (4 or 5 with lots of adult help) but would highly recommend actual woodworking at that point.

We went to visit a friend out of town and they had a big Black and Decker branded toolbench for her 3 year old. It was pretty cool. My 17 month old was amazed by it but a little young for it right now. I've seen it in Toys R Us for about $70. It has lots of tools that make noise and whir around.
