So, if contracts for schools are due in late March, how does the waitlist work. When do people learn whether or not they are in off the waitlist. I don't want to sign a contract for one school and then get in off the waitlist and lose money to switch.
It could happen. Check the binding date on your contract before you sign. Until that date you will only lose the $1000 or so deposit if you switch. After that you'll be on the hook for a year's tuition. You could look into tuition insurance, but that generally only kicks in after your child has attended the original school for a couple of weeks and may not cover all possible causes of a move.
Usually wait list movement does not happen till after the contracts are due back to schools. So as the person stated above, you would lose a deposit if you decide to accept another offer.
