Arlington Parks and Recreation Class Registration

... Is seriously taking years of my life and I swear giving me hyper tension.

Gymnastics class sell out in 2 min. Clearly we need money for a faster computer and internet b/c we are not keeping up.

Why why can't it just be a lottery if over subscribed? A two minute window is ludicrous and what about people who work.

A lottery makes no sense.

Why you have people select what they want before hand and the draw members? Why does it depend on who can click first or take time off from work to register?

Clearly the answer is to build another barcroft which I think I will start petitioning now!

They moved gymnastics to 30 minutes before general registration to help make the system move more quickly. I figure everyone knows that it's a crazy 5 minutes and can plan accordingly.

I don't sign my kids up for gymnastics but I think the ACPR website is awesome. I remember the days before internet registration. I love that I can see how many have signed up, how many on the waitlist; I find the staff whom I speak to on the phone to be extremely helpful.

This is why we stopped taking classes through the county. They were great but after we had #2 it became impossible for me to get two kids in classes and someone always got short changed. I think that if they opened up more sessions and limited enrollment to county residents, it might work better.

It's honestly like trying to call in for a radio contest. But it's been this way for a decade.

Out of county enrollment doesn't start until a later date. There is no way people from outside Arlington are getting into most of the gymnastics classes. When my child takes class, there are probably 5 different classes/groups using the space at the same time. It wouldn't even be possible to add more classes.

Isn't swimming the same way?

Yes, they have made vast vast improvements to the website, and the splitting of gymnastics was genius, but this 'crazy five minutes' seems a bit much and there should be a way to do in an equitable measured way. And the staff there is super helpful. It's just the mismatch of supply and demand and the way it is brokered is ridiculous.

Just curious how many people wanted into a class and didn't get in? It seems like there are a lot of gymnastics sections.

I didn't get to register until 7:03, and my daughter is #2 on a wait list. Last fall, she was #3, and eventually they created another class,s but not until we had registered at a private gym (which we are probably doing again, but I was trying to conserve some cash.)

They don't have enough "beginner" classes at reasonable times for working parents in the evening / weekends, so the only openings were at 3:30 in the afternoon on a Monday.

Same here. How on earth are we supposed to do that!!
I will register (again) with a private organization.

Just do a class at the Woodmont center through the YMCA. It's off Fillmore St. Right before Spout Run.
There is also a new gymnastics place on Quincy by Washington and Lee HS.

16:03 PP here -- we've been going to Dynamic on Quincy and it's been really good, but 2x as expensive as the county classes. And since I live 5 minutes from Barcroft, it's a little annoying that we've never been able to get into a beginner gymnastics class there.
