| My teen DD and pals made sugar cookies this morning and decorated 3 dozen, leaving 2 dozen cookies plain. What's the best way to decorate them now that they've cooled completely? Must we have naked angels and bare Christmas trees?! |
| Do you have anything? Powdered sugar, sprinkles, food coloring? |
|
nothing wrong with plain--easier to transport and less messy.
You can sprinkle with powdered sugar or make icing: http://www.wilton.com/recipe/Confectioners-Sugar-Glaze-Icing |

Make a glaze of powdered sugar and lemon juice. Ideally you'll have enough lemon juice, but otherwise thin further with milk or half and half.
Brush onto cookies. Sprinkle with whatever sugar or decorations you like--the lemon glaze will be very tasty and will function as "glue" to hold the sugar, etc. on. I typically do the baking on one day and the decorating on another day--no problem! |
| Wait-- Are sugar cookies supposed to be decorated when still warm? If so, I never knew that! What difference does it make? |
I use the powdered sugar/lemon glaze too, and Use a drop or two of food coloring to dye it an appropriate color. I'd probably leave the angels white, but you can easily do the Christmas trees green. |
If you're putting sugar sprinkles on then yes, the sugar sticks when they're warm. if you're putting a powdered sugar glaze on then no they don't have to be still warm |
Oh, good. I always glaze first anyway. Angels with just sprinkles and no glaze look like they're wearing a sheer skirt with no slip! |
